What is Gov Camp 2.0?

It is the use of social media technologies, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn applied to the government context in an attempt to provide more effective processes for government service delivery to citizens and businesses.

What is a Gov Camp?

  • It is an international network of user generated conferences. It is an open, participatory workshop event whose content is developed by the participants themselves.
  • They are organized and evangelized largely through the web, harnessing what might be called a Web 2.0 communications toolkit.
  • While loosely structured, there are rules at BarCamp. All attendees are encouraged to present or facilitate a session.
  • Everyone is also asked to share information and experiences of the event, both live and after the fact, via public web channels including (but not limited to) blogging, photo sharing, social bookmarking, twittering, wiki-ing, and IRC.
  • This open encouragement to share everything about the event is in deliberate contrast to the "off the record by default" and "no recordings" rules at many private invite-only participant driven conferences.

Why is it important to Mexico?

  • In Mexico we are facing various challenges and issues including: governance, cohesion of social fabric; communication between governments and citizens and others.
  • Therefore, we propose a means through which we can openly communicate and find solutions with others who are willing to be active.
  • The Gov 2.0 Summit will the provide the platform to discuss, debate and find a better way for the government, with the support of citizens in Mexico and what we call civil society, to help improve their performance in these areas:
    • Transparency
    • Collaboration
    • Participation

To the left of this page you will find a navigation bar in which you can choose to participate in the event at various levels. The only requirement is that you sign up and, in light of our emphasis on transparency, we ask that you register your full and email address.
